On Friday, the 26th of November, the Women in Sports WA (“WINSWA”) Team gathered with their family, friends, partners and supporters to honour WINSWA’s Amabassadors and take stock of WINSWA’s journey. The night also celebrated the official launch our new Ambassador Hub, made possible by Komo Digital’s Audience Engagement Platform.
Coming together in the John Holland building in the Perth CBD, it was a relaxed, informal event representing WINSWA values.
Western Force Rugby legend Heath Tessman and WINSWA founder Karen Hennessy served as MC’s of the event and discussed the inspiration behind WINSWA’s journey. They introduced our newest Amabassadors: Anneka Stephens (Rugby Union & League) and Paralympian Amber Merritt (Wheelchair Basketball). Also in attendance were WACA CEO Christina Mathews, Deputy Mayor of the City of Vincent, Susan Gontaszewski, and the 'MUMS' and daughters of WINSWA.
Komo CEO Joel Steel showcased the WINSWA Ambassador Hub, accessed quickly by scanning a QR code. The Ambassador Hub was created to provide one easy digital destination for us to celebrate the skills and triumphs of our outstanding female athletes. More than just static information, Joel challenged all of us to a game of Live Trivia, quizzing us on how well we know our athletes and ambassadors! It was a fun and easy way to engage the attendees and stay true to WINSWA’s mission. The happy winner was Gareth Weinback, Coach of Curtain Saints (Womens Gridiron) and partner to WINSWA Team Member Mara (Podcast Team).
WINSWA Ambassadors Tully Belviaqua, Chantella Perara, Tash Rigby spoke to the attendees via recorded videos. Likewise, cricket Ambassadors Chloe Pipero and Alana King recorded a video as they had a big final to win the next day!
One of the standout moments of the night came from young Faye Conway who spoke about the inequalities in sport. Thank you Faye for your passionate and strong words! We highly recommend watching Faye’s speech that she recently gave at her school:

The night would not have been possible without the help of our amazing partners and Women in Sport WA would like to thank the following:
Stef King for her amazing photos taken for our Ambassador Hub. She has really captured the emotions of the athletes and the grassroots communities! Here is the wonderful Robyn Lambird bronze medalist at the Summer olympics in Tokyo. Thank you Stef. :) 😃
Marcia Maguire for organising the printed photos and the catering. Thank you so much! We even found framed Memorabilia from Commonwealth athlete Alana Boyd (Pole Vault) who our MC Heath Tessman has known since he was 5 years old!
Thank you to John Holland for graciously hosting the event for us, our partner Roberto for all the wonderful T-Shirts at Macron Store in Bibra Lake; Hillary at Metro Hotel, and Colin at Adept Photo Boots.
A further thank you to Joel, Theresa and the team at KOMO for making our amazing Ambassador Hub come to life. You can check out the hub at https://womeninsportwahub.komo.site/
Thank you again to everyone who attended and all the supporters of WINSWA’s mission! It was a wonderful night full of fun and laughs. All the kids left with the Women Sports Australia Cadbury chocolate bars - sorry mums and dads about the sugar high 😉
